The senate committee on ethics has suspended hearing on the petition against the ministerial nomination of Rotimi Amaechi, former governor of Rivers state. PDP Senator Nnaji Loses Seat In Enugu
National Assembly Election Tribunal led by Justice M.O Adewara in Enugu State has nullified the election of Gilbert Nnaji of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). Mr. Nnaji was elected in April to represent Enugu East senatorial district. In a ruling in favor of a former Governor of the state, Chimaroke Nnamani of the Peoples Democratic Change (PDC) Justice Adewara nullified Nnaji election.
Gilbert Nnaji After the hotly contested election, Mr. Nnaji scored 69,544 votes against Nnamani’s 57,528 to win the contest.

UNICAL Students Stage Protest Over Basic Amenities, Lack Of Clean Toilets
No it’s not bed bugs for the students of the UNICAL students
like UNILAG students protested few days ago. The University of Calabar students
this morning ignored lectures and staged a protest in the school campus,
complaining about the deplorable state of basic amenities in their hostels as
well as lack of water and power supply among others. They are also protesting that
the female students have been forced to start using polythene bags to serve as
their toilets since the female toilets have remained unkept, leaving the
students to distance themselves from it.
Jigawa Assembly sacks LG chair, suspends 2 others
Jigawa State House of Assembly has removed Jahun Local Government
Area chairman, Alhaji Musa Harbu, and suspended two others for alleged
misconduct and negligence of duty.
Those suspended include chairmen of Gumel and Birniwa local government councils, Alhaji Muhammed Bunde and Alhaji Alhassan Babandi, respectively.
Vanguard gathered the House on June 24 this year, constituted an adhoc committee to investigate the activities of the 27 local government council chairmen in the state.
Presenting the report in the House, the committee recommended the immediate removal of Jahun council chairman from the office for alleged misconduct and negligence of duty, based on the provision of section 9 of Local Government Councils Law chapter 18 law of Jigawa State 2012.
The committee further recommended that Birniwa and Gumel local governments council’s chairmen be suspended for misconduct, dereliction of duty and failure to comply with provisions of local government appropriation law.
The chairman of the Committee, Musa Sule Dutse, also disclosed that 10 local councils chairmen were found wanting by the committee, adding that they failed to defend themselves before the committee.
He pointed out that the cases of the remaining 17 local government chairmen were still under investigation.
The committee also recommended that the two council chairmen should remain suspended until conclusion of further investigation by the assembly.
Vanguard reports that the sitting, which was presided over by the Deputy Speaker, Alhaji Muhammad Garba, adopted the report and pronounced the immediate removal and suspension of the three council chairmen.
In a quick reaction to the decision, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the state said it would seek legal interpretation of the verdict in court.
Chairman of the state PDP, Alhaji Salisu Mamuda Kuit, described the decision of the state lawmakers as barbaric and an injustice.

Police arrest Falae’s suspected abductors
